Why am I getting engine flat spots on my Audi Cab 2.6 V6 once the engine has warmed up?

I have a 1994 Audi Cabriolet 2.6 V6 and when the engine had warmed up I get flat spots around 3000 and 4000 revs. Its fine if I rev then engine when stationary but when drive it happens. If the engine has just been started it is fine and flys through all the revs in all gears. I'm wondering if it may just need some fuel treatment or something?|||Most likely the mass air flow meter, located in the air intake, if fuel injected. Problem will only appear when engine has warmed up and the excess fuel device has cut out. Get the fault codes read, this will indicate if the MAF is faulty.|||Most likely to be down to the spark plugs or ignition leads breaking down under heat and load.

How do I fix the brake lights on my Audi A6?

I have an Audi A6 and I have been getting a warning light that says to check my "brake ligthts". My regular brake lights work fine. The row of small brake lights in the rear window have three lights that are out, but all the rest in the row are working.

Is this a fuse problem or do I need to change the three bulbs? If it's the bulbs, how do I change them?|||If its just 3 lights its not a fuse. If it the LED lights I think you have to replace the hole unit. If its not just start taking things apart till you get to the lights, Im not sure of the specifics for the sedan since I have an avant, but for me there are just a couple screws and then everything thing else pops off with plastic tabs, be careful not to break any.|||Honestly, just changing the bulbs could be a problem for you. We have special scan tools at the dealership that scan the whole system to make sure it's not more than a faulty bulb. A lot of the time the tools can detect improper wiring problems and other serious conditions. Best and safest bet is to get an appointment set up for your A6 at one of the dealerships. We do full scans, and that way you can find out if all your information is up to date, and if there are any 'silent recalls' you will have those fixed under warranty possibly. We often have recalls for software updates rather than real safety issues... this could also be what the A6 needs to help with the light problem...|||dont be cheap take it to a mechanic

What is the expected life for an Audi A4?

I own an Audi A4 which I bought new in 2005. I am looking to write off it's depreciation using the straight line method and am wondering what the expected life of the car should be. Anyone know?|||Well it ALL depends on how the owner has taken care of the car...Assuming that the car was serviced properly, etc. Audi cars have been known to last a very long while

When I worked at Champion Audi, it was common to see some A4's come in with 200K+ miles on them...If you are trying to account for the cars depreciation, usually 5 years is the common approach...I mean you cannot really answer this question exactly|||Depends on how well you care for it. 200,000+ miles and 20 years is easily attainable. How much can I expect to pay on an Audi a6 2002?

The car is in good to decent condition it is a 2002 Audi a6. Has about 110k-120 miles on it. I was wondering how much should I expect to pay in maintenance and possible repairs in the next year as I hear audi I a very expensive car to maintain.|||You can do a search through Google by typing '2002 Audi A6 reliability'.

According to MSN Autos,

an occasional problem on this vehicle (3.0L engine only), is the failure of the Ignition Coils.

The cost to replace the Ignition Coils is estimated at $23.00 for each coil and $65.00 for labor. Problems with the Ignition Coils are identified in TSB #010301. All prices are estimates based on $65.00 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

Audis, being luxury cars, costly to maintain and service. Older Audis also have a bad reputation for reliability, with the main issues in the engine or electrics.

According to whatcar.com, the suspension is the most likely area to give trouble so listen out for clunks on your test drive.

Check the electrics thoroughly - particularly the windows and warning lights.

Ignition coil failure affected 1.8T engines for a while - ensure coils have been replaced.

If the one you are after is the 2.7 twin Turbo version, take note that turbos are expensive to repair when they spoil.

But if your model looks great, and you are convinced that it would be generally good, then go for it if you wish-- the A6 is lovely and quiet, with ample long-distance cruising ability and a great cabin. It is one of the classiest luxury executive car.

Good luck. Sorry I couldn't directly answer your question about maintenance bills.

Can a 2008 audi a4 2.0T quattro audi symphony head unit handle the watt output of a subs and amp?

Would i have replace the audi symphony head unit or can i keep it in?|||The power isn't an issue as it's actually the other way round; the amp gets it's signal from the head unit, then the power from the amp drives the sub.

You should be fine using the head unit you have, you just need to check to see if it has pre-outs (2 jacks, red and white). If it doesn't, you need to make sure the amp can get it's signal from a 'line-level connection', basically using existing speaker wire as the signal.

Where should I go to get an Oil Change for my Audi?

I have a 98' Audi A6 Quattro with 77,000 miles. I want to take it somewhere that I can TRUST. Suggestions?|||Read your owner's manual. It tells you very plainly that you must use oil that meets VW/Audi specification 402/405. What does that mean??? Read the label on the back of Mobil One 0W-40 oil. This meets the requirements. I Prefer ELF oil, but it is hard to find it sometimes locally. But your own GENUINE audi filters (or MANN filters, they're the same thing) and bring your OWN oil to a quick lube at closing and ask the technician there if he will change your oil for you for $15-20. Usually they will say "yes" because they are not using anything in their stock to account for, and it's "free"money. To the guy with the Mercedes going to quick lubes, "GET WISE"!!!!!! Never use drum oil or quicky oil that does not meet genuine Mercedes specifications. You are at risk, believe me. Mercedes has it's own specification numbers that MUST be met. GET WISE!!!!!!!|||Any oil change place will do. Just ask them to use synthetic oil and to please read the owner's manual to find out the capacity!!! You can also look in the owner's manual in the index under lubricants and/or capacities. I have a Mercedes and I take it to a quick lube place but I have made sure that they know that it holds 8.5 quarts. Chances are your Audi holds more than the standard vehicle. I would also buy the oil filter directly from the dealer only!! New Audi's might require Audi oil. If that's the case go to your local quick lube, ask if they will change your oil if you supply the oil and filter. Good luck|||Any place whose business is changing oil and doing grease jobs. Is Audi an overrated automotive manufactuer?

Is this true? Please I want to hear from people who can actually back this up with facts - mechanics and people who actually know about the engineering of these cars. My friend has an Audi TT and at first she was like...'oh this is the best car ever!' and now she wishes she never bought it,as it has proved to be very unreliable and cash draining.

I truly believe that VW, Audi and BMW build strong powerful cars, but it would appear they are high also maintainence and have a fair share or problems. I have also never heard of Audi winning awards for 'car of the year', simple because they do not have a fantastic track record for reliablilty and customer service.

Now listen guys I would like to hear unbiased opinions, not just from audi owners who are trying to defend the car they perhaps now wished they hadn't forked out so much money on.|||Audi has much worse engineering than BMW, but is cheaper than BMW so I guess you do get what you pay for. I worked on several Audi and BMW 5 series. Both are excellent car for driving. But when working, Audi is more difficult compare to BMW. All Audi is driven with timing belt and you have to rip out entire front end (Bumper, radiator, all the way up to the cam pulley) to replace the belt. The cost of labor is additional 3 - 4 hours compare to other cars. Dealer charges $1300 for this service (water pump replacement included) and most independent shop price isn't far off from this price.

Audi brake pads have the wear sensor embedded in them so if the something goes wrong with the sensor, you would have to replace the entire brake pads. The sensor is wrapped around a metal brake line so you would have to pry and move the brake line to pull it out. Any automotive book will tell you that you should not bend a metal brake line. Working with Audi, this is a required procedure.

Audi uses Vengine block. Problem with V block engine is that it does not give you much space to work on. To take right side of spark plugs out, the air filter and intake assembly must be completely removed. To take left side of spark plugs, coolant reservoir assembly must be removed. All that adds to additional 1 hour of work just to replace spark plugs. BMW V8 M60 engine has much more room to work on and replacing spark plugs would only take 30 minutes. Most of BMW 6 cylinder engine is in inline format so you rarely have to worry about space problem when working on them.|||As far as I'm concerned most Audis these days are VWs badged as an Audi. For example, Jettas are similar to Audi A4's

Many parts are interchangeable and you can have an Audi serviced at any VW dealership.

I presently own a 2006 VW Jetta and many parts have an Audi logo on it. Let's face it , regardless of who makes a car these days, if they make different marques they interchange parts to save money.

I have had 2 problems both covered under the warranty. I needed a new heater blower motor replaced because a bolt was not seated right when manufactured. I also had to have a new instrument cluster replaced due to a faulty VW info indicater going crazy when it displayed info.

BMW is in a class by themselves as they don't make any other vehicles with similar body styles. They may provide Land Rover an engine, but that's it.

BMW's still come with a 3 year warranty on all parts including many things, but you pay for it in the long run since the cost is built into the price of the car.

BMW's can be cheaper to maintain if you belong to the BMW car club of America. Parts can be bought from dealers and aftermarket sellers at just about wholesale. If you can find a good qualified independent mechanic , he'll work a lot cheaper than the dealers will.

Does your Audi have a panel attached to the underside of the back seat to stop metal touching the battery?

I have already asked a similar question but what I really want to know is if you have an audi, and the battery is housed underneath the rear passenger seat does the actual seat have a protective panel or cover attached to the underside of the seat to stop the metalwork of the seat touching the terminals of the battery. Why does my 2001 Audi A4 Quattro have weak heat only while driving otherwise there is no heat at all?

While driving my Audi blows some heat but even on HI the heat that comes out is only warm and when the fan in set to high only Luke-warm, and when the car idles the heat goes out entirely and blows only cold air.|||There are two VERY common problems for this

#1 - Thermostat. Check the temperature gauge while the car is running. If the gauge is in the middle after the car is warm, then you're OK. if the gauge is at 1/4 gauge or less, then your thermostat is stuck open, and coolant is flowing freely instead of being able to pick up heat from the engine.

#2 - Plugged heater core. I run into this problem more often than the thermostat. At our shop, the firs tthing you can try is unplugging it, this is very easy. unhook the coolant lines going to the heater core, they run straight into the firewall, underneath the cowling in the engine bay. Cut a spare piece of coolant line, connect one to a hose, and the other to one of the tubes going to the heater core. turn on the hose, let the water flow through the heater core for a few minutes, and then do the same through the other line. reconnect the hoses, and test the heater. you may need to do this a couple of times to get it working well. (my experience is 2-3 flushes, with a warm-up period in between each flush.|||most likely u have a stuck open thermostat or bad heater control valve.....|||low/no coolant

or stuck thermostate

All i want is someone to be honest and say they have forgotten or is there just a delivery delay. Does anyone out there know how long they take.|||I have heard them taking that long. I have bought a new BMW mid November 2010, and I will get it on 4th April 2011.

They told me that in January, they assess the order status for the current year and see how they can proceed with the production. It depends on the manpower they have at hand. In this business, there an enormous fluctuation, and if there are significant changes in the headcount, they're in trouble with the delivery.

But they also really are unfair when it comes to somebody showing up, paying cash for a brand new car with all the extras. Then, they do this client in between and you'll get the backlog in full blaze.

Audi and Mercedes do the same.|||I've heard (don't know if true) that because we have had an effective 20-30% devaluation (i.e Audi should have increased thier prices significantly to make same profit) cars to the UK don't make a profit as they can't increase prices.

As they are snowed out with orders from China etc. they ration RH drive cars and only make small batches at a time as they are unprofitable.

Know it doesn't help you but sounds somewhere near the truth!|||I'd go into the showroom and tackle the sales manager face to face. That's a long delay from 1 March to end of June! I don't think anyone can actually answer that for you on here; other than to say what their experience of ordering with Audi has been. Haven't had that experience personally either, other than to say my friend ordered a new Audi A3 convertible last year and had a similar experience of being fobbed off week after week until eventually the car turned up about two months late. I guess it's not too bad if you are part exing your existing car with them because you have a car available to you until the change happens, but if you've sold your car privately and had to part with it, you are without a car until Audi get their finger out and turn up with your new car. Whatever happens, personally I'd be cautious now I've heard of your experience too.

Can you unlock the Audi R8 in Midnight Club LA without the Social club?

How often do the Audi's turbos have/should be replaced?

Hey. Im looking to buy an Audi A4. I know most of them have turbos and i read somewhere that the turbos should be replaced every so many miles. Can you help please? I believe it was around 50,000miles or 60,000miles, Thanks. I appriciate it.|||Turbos are not "wear" parts, meaning they should last the life of the car. Will they? Maybe, Maybe not, but there is no scheduled turbo change. The most important things you can do to extend the life of the turbos are:

1) Change your oil at the recommended intervals, or sooner

2) Don't beat the snot out of the car

3) If you were driving hard or fast, let the car sit idle for a few minutes before shutting it off. This will allow the turbos to cool some before stopping them.

Thick white smoke from the exhaust often indicated a turbo problem.|||Is the A4 new or used? I always buy my Audi's from new %26amp; trade before they get to three years and the manufacturer warranty expires. Audi parts are very, very expensive so think carefully before you consider a used Audi and make sure if you do you buy from an authorised main Audi dealership who will include some warranty.|||Lord help you if you had to replace them every year.... No you get them inspected every 30-50k miles. If anythings wrong you rebuild them. But to be safe while you change your oil check them everytime since your already down there.|||depends on how well they have been cared for..if you dont over heat them they can last 200k miles

Should i get an audi s4 in Stick or Automatc?

I live in Los Angeles, and usually every day there is traffic. I want to buy an Audi S4 but im not sure if i should get Automatic or Stick. I want to have fun in the car, i want to enjoy it, and i know at night i will be able to do what i wanna do because there will be no traffic. But during the day its horable. What do i do? Alot of people say get stick youll have more fun, but is that really true? What if i need to pick up a cell phone, or im eating something, or im playing really loud music so i cant hear the engine? I need some good advice.|||automatics are for old men, get a stick its lots more fun to drive, its faster, more economical, bigger gear range 5 or 6 gears compared to the 4 gears in autos and maintenance is also cheaper no Tran fluid changes and gearboxes hardly ever go wrong even tho about every 100k you need to change the clutch depending on how you drive, more control over the car e.g. you can use engine breaking.

in answer to eating while driving or using the phone you can normally do it fine just get a hands free and put the food in ur mouth before you change gear, youl know when to change gear coz ul feel the vibrations or if you cant do that theres a meter.

during the day its fine you just have to get used to it.

Why are some 2003 Audi A6's Have dual exhaust on different sides while some have them next to each other?

I was looking at 2003 audi a6's some have an exhaust on each side while some have two exhausts together like the bmw 3 series.|||I believe the last poster is closest to the correct answer.

It is all dependant on the engine size. A6 have three possible engine sizes from that year. A standard 6-cyl (3.0) a turbo 6 (2.7T) and a V-8 (4.2). The 6-cylindar engine has a single exhaust manifold to a single exhaust pipe system. This means the two tips on one side of the car.

The twin-turbo and the v-8 have segregated manifolds for each side of the engine block, hence for the turbo and the v-8, dual exhaust tips.|||Hi there,

If you are in North America, the answer is actually pretty straight forward.

The cars with twin outlets on the same side of the car are front wheel drive cars, while those with one outlet on each side are Quattro (AWD) equipped cars. If the car has two outlets per side (total of four on the car) it is an RS6.

Hope this helps.|||umm ur obviously confused i work at an audi store since 1999 and we have never gotten audi a6's with 20 exhaust pipes on one side, maybe the person customized it|||stock exhaust and aftermarket exhaust systems...audi wouldn't build 2 different sytems for the same car...|||Its dependent on the trim level/specification of the individual A6 model whether dual or side by side pipes are fitted.|||The two exhaust on one side doesnt mean its dual exhaust. its probably just two pipes coming from one muffler. The ones with pipes on two sides are probably actually dual exhaust.

Why should someone get an Audi R8 when they can get a Porsche 911?

for the same kind of $$, around 100k

Isn't Porsche more prestigious and better handling than Audi? If you compare the brand of Audi and Porsche, there's no comparison. When you compare the price, it's still a bit cheaper than the audi and will always have better reselling value than an audi.|||911's are a dime a dozen, very common car. The R-8's are still rare. Audi has the same V-10 engine as a Lamborghini. I would definitely get the Audi over the Porsche.|||Not everyone has a wee wee pee pee and therefore not everyone needs a Porsche.|||The Porsche is a more common vehicle compared to the Audi R8. How to increase performance for my 2006 audi a4?

Im not the best with engines or anything but i wanna learn more and get into it more. But my audi is a 4 cylinder turbo automatic and its doesnt have very good acceleration. Ive heard an air intake system would be good and i was wondering if i could make it a twin turbo somehow. Anyways just tell me what you think and what would increase acceleration and horsepower and maybe give me a link or something to check some out.|||From everything I've read over the years, the turbo VW engines don't gain much from intakes, but they do respond to a reflash. Get a reflash of your PCM and it could increase boost pressure and make a significant amount of additional power, possibly 30hp or more.

No, you can't make it twin turbo, it's a 4 cylinder.

A higher flow downpipe and exhaust would also help evacuate exhaust gases out the back of the car, freeing up a few hp.

Unfortunately, the stock turbo on these cars is pretty limited, as its sized for the max power of the stock car, and won't respond well to additional boost, so early on you have to upgrade the turbocharger. There are a number of qualified VW/Audi tuners out there, most notably APR and HPA. Unfortunately being an automatic may cause some problems, as they may not be able to tune the automatic to handle too much additional power.|||air intakes are a total waste of money on injection cars, they work on unmetered carburetor engines IF the jets are opened out , a rechip and a slight adjustment of the turbo pressure limiter(dump valve, wastegate) will get you 250 BHP easily, if you want to go overboard copy the new VW polo with a supercharger and turbo 180BHP out of a 1.4L engine reliably, but on a front wheel drive car over 200bhp at the front leads to torque steer and erratic behavior on slippery highways, the imprezas and evos are 4WD|||You could put a k%26amp;n air intake you can put a blotch dominator turbo and hks or amp exhaust like you see the Subaru impreza wrx sti's have it is the one big muffler on the left side. It sounds amazing my neighbor has all of that and more on his Sti and it sound really good and is really fast 100 mph in 2nd gear. Hope that's enough.|||Most people start with intake, exhaust and engine software. Next would probably be suspension and upgraded brakes. You might be surprised thee power your stock turbo can put out with some engine tuning software.

We've been burned on craigslist, so I would rather not go that route.|||If it is the 1.8T, trade-in is about $13.8K and private party sale is $15.2K with typical options. If it is the 3.0 V6, trade is about $16K and private party sale is about $17.9K.

As you can see, you will be better selling it yourself rther than trading. You can use your local paper or autotrader.com if you want larger area coverage.

You should be able to get an '05 Odyssey in the lowest (LX) trim level and pocket a little money. You should be able to get an '06 Quest except for the highest trim level for you A4.

If you can purchase from a private party, you will save approximately $1.5K.

How do I connect the lights on my boat trailer to an Audi Q7?

I have a 2007 Audi Q7 with a factory installed towing package. I attached a converter to change the 7-pin electrical to a 4-pin flat connector for my boat trailer. When first connected yesterday, a light flashed on the dashboard, indicating a trailer was connected. The lighting worked fine. Today, the lights do not work, and there is no indicator on the dashboard. What could be wrong?|||Check for an in line fuse on your trailer harness, it could be blown.

Do audi cars have to be brought to the dealer or a special mechanic?

If i were to buy an audi. would i have to bring it to the dealer or special mechanic to get it repaired and if so is it more expensive than an average normal mechanic?|||No, but it's hard to find someone who actually knows how to fix them even though then say they can.|||Not every shop will work on an Audi, most will but not all.|||once the warranty is up i would not bring it to the dealer i would find a good European car mechanic its much cheaper than the dealer. i would NOT take it to just anyone though they have alot of special tools and many mechanics will simply put a pipe wrench to it an say good enough make sure they specialize in Audi VW BMW Mercedes and the like. As for do it yourself stuff there are always ppl willing to help on Audi world forums. dont let this scare you the cars are well worth the effort of finding a good mechanic and the extra cost of maintenance|||I bought my 1999 Audi A4 1.8T back in November 1998.

Audi's have awesome warranties, so I didn't need to actually pay for anything until a few years ago (I have very low mileage). I found a VW/Audi repair shop near my house that can service my car for a fraction of what the dealer charges.|||Yes, it would be slightly more expensive to bring it to the Audi mechanics. However, the people at the Audi dealership have experience, and know how to work with European cars; since this is the only car they work with. They will also know how to reset electronic indicators such as the "change oil" sign ETC.

But if you take care of your Audi, the only thing you will be bringing it in for is an oil change and maybe detailing. They are very efficient and quality cars and I would reccomend buying one. Also through experience, the warranty covers almost everything that could happen.|||I have went to several mechanics that wont do more to my audi than do an inspection! I have never taken my car to the dealer and I never plan on it, way too expensive!!! I like this audi/vw mechanic about an hour from my house, they have parts cars out back so I will pickup little things that go on my car. If im in a crunch there is a couple guys in town that will get the job done but I trust the vw guy's opinion.

Honestly I just had the vw place check out my car and since I am low on cash I went to www.autohausaz.com and bought the parts and will have my pops help me do it myself.

(example-control arm from vw garage=$220 which is less than the dealer for sure-----------control arm from autohaus=$90.)

and if you cant do this then find a guy that will use your parts but please research them and see if they deal with audi and that they have a good reputation and have been in business for a while.

If you can afford it though support your vw place, we need to keep them around. You could even ask if they will put in parts that you bought, at least they will get the labor.

good luck, hope this helps

How can i make my audi a4 more sporty?

I have a '08 black audi a4 and would like to make it look more sporty and euro without breaking the bank. I have the front and back windows tinted thus far.|||please don't get euro tail lights, they look like crap. on the other hand, getting a euro plate is a good touch on an audi: www.autoplates.com

Most audi owners who are doing stuff to their cars lower it first of all. So i would have to say get some coilovers or springs so that you are not sitting at truck height. get hids for your fog lights, since I already believe you have factory hids in your headlights.

Hope this helped good luck|||chrome mirrors, engine covers, rims, headlight, euro tails|||get it lowered, black out the tail lights if u want

if ur looking to spend more money go with a body kit n rims

Where might I find replacement climate control buttons for a 2003 Audi A4?

Does anyone know of where I can buy new buttons for the climate control unit for a 2003 Audi A4? If possible, I would like to get it somewhere other than the dealer. Thanks!|||What have you got against Audi dealers? I hear that they are nice people (mostly) and their mothers love them. For cheap parts it is sometimes worth calling around some scrap yards, but with such a new model, this may add a lot to your phone bill.|||Ebay is probably the only place your going to get the buttons, most people will want to sell the hole unit. You might be able to find someone parting their car out on craigslist and get it from them cheap.

I have purchased a 2005 Audi A4.It is an American car. What is involved in the installation of Daytime running?

I have a 2005 Audi A4. This is an American car. What's involved in installing daytime running lights. Is it something that I can do myself?|||You need to hook the lights you want as your daytime running lights (parking lights, lowbeams, or fog lights or combo of any of those) to a a switched ingnition circuit, probably throught the use of another relay, or the existing relay for the lights you choose.|||I wouldn't try to do it myself. If you mess up anything in the electrical it is expensive to have fixed. If it was a 1985 K-Car, it might be different, but there is a lot that can be damaged by an accidental short, or any temporary crossed circuit. A dealer or any shop with an auto electrical specialist can enable DRLs for you pretty quickly.|||Check with your local Audi dealer service department. They may be able to code control module to turn this feature on.

You need to buy a DRL switch to install it in a slot to the right of 2005 A4 headlight switch.

What is the difference between an '08 Audi A3 and an '08 Audi A3 S-Line?

What is the approximate cost to fix a dent in an Audi hood?

A tire fell on the hood of an 2004 Audi creating a 4" oval dent (.25" deep) about 2' from front. What is a ballpark estimate to repair this?|||from 200-500, and on a less expensive side if it tends to be a friend of a friend and it was not done at the dealership. Please note that not all dents can be corrected but if this is a typicall dent on a flat surface should be no problem.|||You might be able to get a PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) guy to do it for $150-$200

as long as it is not behind double metal, in that case you will have to have it sanded bondo'ed and repainted|||Way more then your going to believe.|||Try pushing a plunger into the middle of the dent and suck the dent out if that doesn't work then depends on the shop.|||If you can afford the Audi you shouldn`t have to ask! But body shops who get to see the dent will probably give you a FREE estimate.

When does a timing belt need to be replaced on 2003 Audi A4?

I have a 2003 Audi A4 with 75K miles on it. The dealer is pushing to have the timing belt replaced, but it isn't recommended in the user manual until 105K miles. I have seen a lot of problems with premature breakage on the late 90s models. Has this problem been fixed or is it still an issue? I am driving from OK to Alaska in January and really don't want to have it break driving through Canada....

Thanks!|||To be safe, I'd go ahead and get the timing belt replaced in the next month or two. Yes, the manual may say 105K as the replacement interval, but sometimes they go out around 90K. You'll find owners who will replace the TB at 70-80K as a precautionary measure.

In any case, I would get it replaced before you go on any cross country drive. It's not cheap to do (around $1000 - most of that is labor) but compared with a belt breakage and the resultant damage, it's well worth it. Be sure also to replace the water pump at the same time as well as the ancillary equipment such as tensioner, pulley, etc.|||I have a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro and my mechanic recommended that I do it at 76K miles. He said at the same time, I should replace the water pump and serpentine belt. So I did. Timing Belt $77, Water Pump $131, Serpentine belt, $48, Antifreeze $20. Labor $260.00.

I just would liek a detailed explanation on how to change the air filter on a 1999 Audi A4 1.8t? Thank You very much and possibly what tools i will need. Thanks.|||First you need to locate your air filter box, it is hooked to the throttle body normally towards the front of your car.As far as tools, it depends on how audi has it set up some use clips you just flip up others use a philip screw driver.Honda uses either a philips or a 8mm socket. its easy as taking the old one out and putting the new one in, nothing more.|||Buy yourself a Clymer or Haynes manual for the A4. It'll be more comprehensive than a website etc.

What does the yellow exclamation point mean in a 02 audi a4?

it has a yellow symbol (!) like that, looked up in the car manual and it has every symbol in the car ,but nothing about this symbol, im wondering if it means low tire pressure since in other cars that have that symbol it means that, but not sure if audi/volkswagen the symbol means that?

What kind of coolant should be added to a 1999 Audi A4?

I have a 1999 Audi A4 in which the coolant is starting to dip below the minimum line. I know many coolants are color coded, and that I shouldn't mix different kinds. The current coolant is orange. How do i change a head gasket on a 1991 Audi 90?

Hi i'm looking for a guide on how to change the head gasket on my 1991 Audi 90 sport 2.3L 5 cyl and also looking for other peoples personal exp, info on parts ect.

Thanks and all help is greatly appreciated|||this is a very involved process that takes both time and tools to perform, if you havent done one before on any car i would take to a mechanic. if ya have then i would try a foreighn auto parts store as they will have a guide on repairing your car|||To many steps to list here. Not to mention that their are other factors that we can not predict. most auto parts stores should have a book on that car that will give you a step by step. Cost is about 25 bucks. Whats 25 bucks when your saving about 500 bucks to have a mechanic do the job for you?|||if you dont have the mechanic skills of a seasoned mechanic you shouldn't try it. you have the wiring harness, timing, if its overhead cam you have to time the cam. the fuel injection sys may be tricky. a good book will give you a lot of help but the ones you buy in parts stores sometimes will have the wrong inf in them. go to a shop and see if you can look in there books and advice before you tackle this job. good luck

How do you fix the rear view mirror on an Audi A4?

I have a 1996 Audi A4 Avant S-line and the other day the internal rear mirror came away from the glass! I can't see how it was fixed as the surface that came away from the glass is just a smooth disc and only a round mark is left on the windscreen.

Can anyone help?|||The round mark on the glass is the glue that held it on there. Go to an auto parts store and get a kit to glue the metal piece back to the glass. Get some masking tape and put a piece on the windshield where the bottom of the metal piece is supposed to be, also put a piece to mark the location of one side of the metal piece. Then take a razor blade and gently scrape the remaining glue from the glass so you can put the mirror back to where it's supposed to be. Remove the metal piece from the mirror, the mirror usually slides on the metal piece from the top and has a screw to keep it tight. Follow the directions on the package to clean the glass and the metal piece, then apply the glue and line the metal piece up with your tape marks. MAKE SURE YOU GLUE THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE METAL PIECE TO THE GLASS! Use another piece of tape to hold the metal piece in place while the glue dries, it will take longer than a minute. The package will say how long to wait before putting the mirror back on.|||Some glass companies will reglue it for free. The ones that charge for it charge about $7.95-10.00. The glue they use is called minute bond. Only takes a minute to stick. Regular super glue will only hold it until the sun breaks it down, then it will fall off again. If you want to do it yourself, most auto parts stores and even walmart sell the one time application of minute bond but I would recommend getting it done at a glass shop. There is a little technique to it, plus if you get the bracket glued in the wrong place or upside down or backwards you have problems.|||Its held on with glue, You can get special wind screen glue to hold the mirror onto it. Get it as close to the circle as you can while glueing on the new one, And the glue can be brought from most auto stores or ebay. Like below

How would you drive a car (the Audi R8) that sits very low to the ground?

I am wondering specifically about the Audi R8 and a customized version of it, the ABT Audi R8 GTS. How would you drive these cars on the streets without scraping them up on speed bumps, driveway curbs, ramps, etc.? Would I have to get it lifted?|||Well first of all, if you have a sports car, the driver should be careful when a speedbump or curb approaches. To make it easier supercars have a noselift system, there's a way the nose can lift up so you can ride the speed bump without scratching your front air splitter. I am positive the ABT Audi R8 GTS should have one, but if it doesn't you can have one installed by Audi or just drive it carefully. If you still think you car will be damaged from the front, you can remove the front air splitter so it can get over speed bumps easily. (for track purpose put it back on)|||Considering the GTS version is a track prepped car, it isn't meant to be driven on public roads, so curbs aren't in its design. The standard R8, however, you would drive just like any low sitting car. You go over speed bumps carefully.

How do the new Audi A7 and A8 drive in "comfort" mode with drive select?

I know that the new Audi A7 and A8 have adaptive air suspensions with drive select, but i'm just wondering how the ride quality is under comfort mode. Do they drive very smooth and absorb imperfections like Mercedes under this setting? Thanks in advance!|||The A8 rides well, thats for sure.

How many miles can you put on a 2003 Audi A4?

I am interested in buying a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro V6 3.0L Automatic. It has 77000 miles on it. Was garaged and kept well maintenanced. I am not familiar with Audi. How long do these usually last? My other option would be to get a Honda Accord V6, which I trust to be very reliable in longevity. Any suggestions? Also, I am concerned about the Audi's fuel economy. What do these typically get in mpg (real life, not on paper)? Thanks!|||Buying an older used Audi was the best car decision I've ever made. Mine has 170,000 miles on it and is running as fine as a whistle! Just have to get regular oil changes with fully synthetic oil, Jiffy Lube charges $70 for that and you should do it every 3-5 months.

Oh, and my Audi gets great mpg. Usually about 28 mpg. I refuel at about 320 miles.

Getting them fixed isn't as bad as people say either. Audi's are know for a plastic piece cracking every 10 years or so in the coolant tubing. To fix that was only $150. That's the most I've had to invest in fixing it.

All the amenities are great as well! I promise you'd LOVE your Audi!|||77K on a 03 isn't bad. about 11K a year...

Also, audi's are very reliable. They have the best block in the business. I own 2 for my family right now and have no intentions of getting into any other cars. Fuel economy is right around 25-28mpg depending on how you drive. When I drive extremely conservative (ie popping into neutral on down hill etc...) which I only recommend w/a manual transimission I can hit the 31-33 mpg range. The most i've gone on a tank is 392 miles...

"MR. Kramer the ROAD!!!"

Anyways just make sure that they've had the timing belt, water pump, tensioners, cam seasl etc replaced since your right at the mark. IF they haven't I'd negotiate that out of the price if I could b/c you're looking at an extra 800-1200 bucks to get that done which it will need immediately!

Hope that helps|||Oh, and my Audi gets great mpg. Usually about 28 mpg. I refuel at about 320 miles.

If I get a Audi TDI do i have to store it i side during the winter?

i live in ny and am considering getting an Audi Q7 TDI, but it wont fit in my garage. I want to know if its like the olds one and have to keep plugged in.|||half of my friends have VWs and Audis with TDI engines and they never stored it inside, honestly your car will be fine|||If you live in the 'dacks, or Watertown area, it may be a good idea to plug it in. Otherwise, it will be all right sitting outside. Direct Injection diesels are actually easier to start when it gets cold, compared to the swirl combustion (old style) diesel.|||If you leave it outside you'll just have to let the glow plugs warm up the diesel fuel to its flash point. Anytime you have a diesel engine its best to store it in a warm place. though it'll probably be fine outside.. Dress warm!

The heater of the Audi A4 2005 constantly heats up even when the heater switch is turned off?

The Audi mechanic told me this is 'normal'. The heater in the 2005 models constantly heats, even when the heater switch is off, Just doesn't' blow hot air. This doesn't seem like German engineering to me. It function like a radiator and causes the cabin to heat up in hot weather.

Is there a solution to insulate the heat source?|||You could try pushing fiberglass insulation up and around the heater core. Just make sure the core doesn't get hot enough to burn the insulation.

Another idea I had, that seems like it would be a permanent solution, if it's actually doable, is to create a way to temporarily bypass the heater core.

The way it works, a hose brings hot coolant into the heater core, it cycles through the core, then out via another hose. If you were to hook up a 3rd hose between the 2 other hoses, and then place shut-off valves like this http://www.homedepot.com/Plumbing-Plumbi鈥?/a> on all three, you could, with the turning of a few knobs, switch from a bypassed heater core to a functioning one. I have created an awesome movie outlining my idea, and posted it here;

Check it out, and let me know if you have any questions!

How much would it be to insure a 2000 Audi tt?

About how much would it be for a 16 yr old male to get an 2000 Audi Tt insured?|||Audi TT will have high insurance because to them its considered as a sports car, if its a convertible then it will be even higher. Its over $3500

EDIT:

No as a sedan your insurance will be cheaper, for the guy who says he owns an A6 (nothing against you). I agree with his answer. I just wanted to say that coupes and convertibles have higher insurance than sedans do. Why, its just the insurance thing. They're all money greed retards.

What city do you live in, hope its not like Atlanta or Chicago, your insurance will skyrocket. Where do you think your car will be kept, garage or outside, that matters as well.

Not the same as a TT, but it has the same year. It doesn't really matter anyway, since the majority of your insurance premium pays for liability, not collision. Being a coupe or convertible, it wouldn't surprise me if the TT costs more than my sedan. Anyway, I got my A6 when I was 18, and the yearly premium would have been over $6000. When is the Audi TTS supposed to be released?

Does anyone know when the US release date for the Audi TTS is? I heard sometime in November 08 but that's obviously passed.|||Audi's TTS was released about a month ago. I've seen a few on the streets.|||Some have already hit the dealers, both in coupe and roadster form. I don't know where your at, but Audi of West Covina, in souther Cali, has a couple.|||You can already recive a quote from the website so i'd assume it is released, are you buying it? :P

How do I change the battery in a 2002 Audi A4?

I have a 2002 Audi A4. I can see the battery and it seems easy to remove both of the cables. However, there is a plastic bar covering the battery, making the battery difficult or impossible to remove. The plastic bar is connected to the surrounding mount. I cannot figure out how to open this plastic bar. Any ideas?

Thank you.|||Use a 6mm ball end allen wrench... not the one you get in your tool kit but a specialized tool that's quite a bit longer. 8"+ Check your local hardware store. Of course this is assuming you're talking about the B6 chassis. 2002 is a split year and certain B5 models are designated as year 2002. I think you're talking about the B6 though.

Also note: The batteries in these cars are somewhat oddly shaped... often times the battery you get at your neighborhood auto parts store won't fit underneath the tie-down or even underneath the battery cover. Be sure to measure the new battery and make sure it will fit before you buy it. Don't drive without the battery secured properly with the tie-down. Good luck!|||Regarding 6 mm hex key: the ball end feature was not needed on my 2002 A4 1.8T.

I used an Eklind 54960 "Metric Cushion Grip T Handle Hex Key Size 6 Millimeters Arm Length 9 Inches Handle". Worked handily. Less than $10.00 delivered from a web site, but that site got it shipped from Grainger.

|||Regarding the "plastic bar covering the battery", this is part of a shield spanning the full width of the car. It is anchored by a press-down strip on the forward edge. Pull up this strip--it comes off completely. The pull the shield itself forward toward the front of the car until it comes out.

Where can i get a free manual for the Audi A4 2001?

I have the 2001 Audi A4, but did not get the manual, where can i get it for free, maybe download it?|||You probably can't get a free manual - I faced the same problem when I got my A6, but you can contact Bentley Publishers who can supply one for you at a nominal cost. Dealers will also steer you to them, so they are the place to go.|||Go to your dealer and they can get you one at a cost, though.

But there is surely no way that you would get one for free, that is like getting a course textbook for free because you pay to take the course.

If you have a specific problem, your dealer may be able to help you, you could or you could borrow one from anyone you know with an Audi if it is a general problem.

If they gave these away free, car trade in values would be up because you loose money without these.|||My suggestion is to go to an Audi dealership and get one from them. Do you have a specific problem that needs help?|||Go to the Audi website. They have technical notices for free. It's not a manual, but there's a lot of stuff there.

Second point: BUY THE FACTORY MANUAL not Chiltons / Bentley etc. because the wiring diagrams are all "circuit finder" style.... You can trace a circuit with a test light and find the dead spot right away......... only VW, Porsche, Audi have this...... and it can save tons of time......

What color should i paint the calipers on my audi?

Its a 2007 Audi A4 3.2 quattro. I'm thinking either black, blue, red, or yellow not that there are many other colors to choose from ha. I really like yellow but i'm not sure if it will look nice on my car because i've never seen an B7 a4 with painted calipers. What color do you think would look the best?|||Okay, well than you would either be able to paint them red or black.|||Red :)|||painting the calipers to make them more noticable will probably not

be in your best interest if you want to keep your Audi a classy car. I would keep them black or match the color of the car.|||paint the calipers red

How one perceives a 16 year old with an Audi a4?

My parents recently bought me an Audi a4 for my Sweet 16. I find this fabulous, if not expected, but now I face the issue of driving it to school or not. While I'm very pleased with my car, I'm worried on what people's perspective of a 16 year old with such a nice car is. Opinions?|||Spoiled brat.|||Spoiled little rich girl who's folks give her what ever she wants.|||people come in bmws and mercedes at my school. An audi isnt that big of a deal|||If you go to prep school where everyone over 16 has a new car, then don't worry. If you go to public school, leave the car at home. Tagging is a very serious possibility. Is mommy and daddy paying for the insurance and the gas too?|||..I kind of went through this too. It's alright, it's not like you begged for it. Your parents just got it for you. Drive it to school and don't make a big deal about it.. I had a Jaguar, and people just envied me for it.. i never really had any issues. My Dad's a doctor, so it was more or less suspected from my peers.|||Don't worry about it even if you go to a public school, unless the school is in a bad/ poor area. I am 17 and I might get an audi A6 for my first car.|||Like other people have said if you live in a rich town, go for it! but if you go to public school don't bother, people will just think your a spoiled brat that gets everything you want (which you probably do). Recently this kid at my school got a new BMW M3 convertible and it got keyed on the second day... so your choice!|||Lol I love this situation. Expensive/new and you're spoiled, old/slow/POS and you get made fun of. Its like this with any car in a high school.

What years did audi change the body style of the a4 sedan?

What years after 2001 or so did audi change the body style of the a4?|||The Audi A4 based on the B5 VW platform was built from model years 1996-2001 and available in 4-door sedan or 5-door wagon models.

The B6 platform was used from model years 2002-2006 for the sedan and wagon, and 2002-2007 for the convertible.

The B7 platform arrived early for the sedan and wagon, model years 2005-1/2 to 2008, and was used for the convertible from 2007 to 2008.

What model of Audi did Angelina Jolie drive in Wanted?

How can you connect an ipod to a 2004 Audi A6?

I have a tape player in my Audi, however i am not going to use it. Is there a place where i can connect my ipod so it plays my ipod music? If not, what can i do to make this possible?|||You can do that, or if you want better fidelity, you can get an adapter from enfig.com, that plugs directly into the CD changer cable.|||Convenient stores like CVS and Walgreens sell Auxiliary cables attached to cassette tapes, for around 15 bucks. I used one for like 3 years in high school.

Here is a pic of the closest thing to what i used.
