i was looking into buying cars and i found a nice passat and a very good priced Audi, but i heard that maintenance cost more? what maintenances? what are other problems with german cars?|||First let me tell you that McMonkey is absolutely right with his answer. In addition to this, please check the ADAC Breakdown Statistic which is the most reliable source 鈥?not only for European Cars.
You will find the Statistic here:
http://www.adac.de/images/25797_tcm8-250鈥?/a>
Even if you don鈥檛 speak German you will understand the Statistic. As you can see, German Cars are the most reliable Car鈥檚 available in today鈥檚 market. In the past, Japanese Cars were always on the top but they loose more and more ground for whatever reason ( they rest on their laurels)
The Statistic starts with:
- the small class, followed by
- the lower middle-sized class
- the medium-class
- upper middle-sized class
- Sport Cars
- all-terrain vehicles
- Mini Van鈥檚
- Big Van鈥檚
To understand the charts you have to know that it鈥檚 based on breakdown per 1000 Cars. In total they had 2.46 Millions operations
On page 4 you can read, which part was causing the breakdown. On page 5 and following pages you can read about the Car Models and which part was causing the breakdown
Good luck with you decision and drive safely!|||All German cars are known for electrical problems.
Problems with fuses and lightbulbs burning out quickly or power convertible tops having problems.
BMW's 6 cylinder engines are more reliable than their 4 or 8 or 10 cylinder engines.
VW/Audi's 4 cylinder and 8 cylinder engines are more reliable than there 6 cylinder engines.
For German cars, maintenance and repair costs more and MOST German cars REQUIRE Premium gas.
All Audi's and BMW's made in the last 10 years require premium gas.
The VW Turbocharged engines require premium gas.
So they get a lot of electrical problems and just a few mechanical problems. They do not get mechanical problems that much. Mechanically, they are average in reliability.|||There are no problems with these cars. They are built to an extremely high standard. Build and engineering probably finest there is. They are sophisticated and expensive cars to begin with. This is why maintenance generally costs more. (If its an older car your local mechanic should manage)|||They have a lot of electrical problems and their maintenance costs are outrageous. They also cost too much to begin with and are short on torque. And are mostly butt-ugly.|||C7S stole my answer.
